A blade has fallen off one of the large wind turbines built on Frøya close to the Trondheim Fjord. The accident probably happened the night before Friday.

“We will stop the turbines for the time being and ask the supplier Vestas to carry out an inspection,” Executive Vice President of Communications at Trønderenergi Stig Tore Laugen told the newspaper VG.

The wind turbines – with three blades each – are 180 meters high. The turbine supplier Vestas owns and operates the turbines during the start-up phase.

“Lightning was registered on Frøya on Wednesday, so it will be natural to investigate whether it is related to the blade situation,” Laugen said.
