A woman has been convicted of participating in the terrorist organization ISIS, but the Borgarting Court of Appeal reduced her sentence by one year. A majority believed she was partly a victim of human trafficking while in Syria.

The woman traveled to Syria voluntarily in 2013 to live with her Norwegian husband, who was a foreign fighter in the Nusra Front, and later, ISIS. However, as he died in 2015 and the woman did not have the opportunity to leave Syria, the court believes that the woman no longer committed a criminal act.

The court emphasized, among other things, that the woman’s role was more modest than the roles of those who have previously been convicted of participating in ISIS.
