Brende condemns killing of Canadian hostage

Foreign Minister Brende condemns the Abu Sayyaf guerrillas’ assassination of the Canadian hostage Robert Hall in the Philippines.

– I  strongly condemn the killing of Robert Hall in the Philippines. The murder committed by the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf, must be met with disgust and condemnation, according to a statement from Brende.- Our thoughts and condolences go to Robert Halls family and friends, says Brende.

Hall was abducted from a resort on the island of Samal outside Mindanao in the southern Philippines the night of September 22, along with his Filipino girlfriend Marites Flor, Welshman Robert Ridsdel and Norwegian Kjartan Sekkingstad.

Ridsdel was executed by captors on 22 April and Sekkingstad and Flor are now the sole survivors of the hostages.
– Two hostages are still in captivity and our thoughts go to the remaining hostages and their near family and relatives. From the Norwegian side we are continuing our efforts to find a solution for the remaining hostages, says Brende.
