British Health Secretary Sajid Javid says the omicron variant is spreading at a very fast pace. In London, the variant probably accounts for 40% of corona cases.

In an interview with Sky News on Monday morning, Javid repeated Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s message that Britain is facing a “tidal wave” of omicron.

“The speed at which this is spreading is something we have not seen before,” Javid said.

“The infection with the variant doubles every other day or every third day, which means we are facing a tidal wave. We are once again in a race between the vaccine and the virus,” he noted.

He says no deaths have been confirmed so far in connection with the omicron variant. Still, He adds that the variant is probably behind 40% of the corona cases in London, according to Reuters.

He further noted that ten people are hospitalized with the omicron variant as of today.
