A 21-year-old British sailor has been remanded in custody for four weeks in Bergen District Court, following a violent episode in Bergen city center on Friday night.
The accused punched a 21-year-old Norwegian several times in the head and face. He must have continued to strike when the offended lay defenseless and bloody on the ground, writes Bergens Tidende.
The 21-year-old did not know the victim. He explained that he had been drinking alcohol and did not remember the episode.
Police have a video of the violence, which took place at the Torgallmenningen in the center of Bergen. The victim was concussed and sustained fractures to the face. He has not sustained permanent injuries.
The charged man is attached to a British submarine, which leaves Haakonsvern during the weekend.
Police lawyer Arne Fjellstad wanted the British man imprisoned because of the danger of forfeiture and evasion.
