In recent weeks there has been nearly a doubling in the number of errors on broadband as a result of lightning and thunder in compare with the same period last year, according to Telenor.
– This underscores the importance of making the home ready for thunderstorms before leaving on vacation. Unplug the power connectors to all electronic equipment. The same applies if you are at the cottage or caravan, said by Birgit Bjørnsen, TV and broadband manager at Telenor.
Summer is the peak season for lightning and thunder and thus lightning damage. In recent weeks, Telenor repaired and handled 1,981 errors on broadband as a result of lightning and thunder around the country. There is almost a doubling from last year, reported by the company.
About a third of the annual lightning in Norway takes place during the month of July. Eastern and Southern parts of the country are experiencing most lightning and thunderstorms in the summer.
– Make an agreement with your neighbors to check each other’s homes while you are on holiday in case something happens. If you live in a vulnerable area you should also consider installing surge protection, recommended by Bjørnsen.
