Change in regulations so that PST can monitor travelers in and out of Norway

The government proposes to amend the Immigration Act to ensure that the PST (Norwegian Police Security Service) is authorized to monitor travelers, in order to prevent terror.

The background is that the EOS (Norwegian Parliamentary Intelligence Oversight Committee) has criticized PST for obtaining passenger information on Norwegian citizens’ foreign trips.

“The government takes the EOS committee’s message very seriously. In order to ensure that the permits for obtaining passenger information are clear enough, we now propose to clarify these so that there should be no doubt that the PST has the authority to obtain passenger information and, in this way, could prevent terror,” says Justice and Immigration Minister Jøran Kallmyr (FrP/Progress Party).
