Changing weather conditions are expected in large parts of the country throughout the week. At the same time, the conditions will be good for those who want to enjoy the rest of the winter holidays.
“For those who are going home from the mountains, the conditions look good. This also applies to those who want to travel up the mountain,” on-duty meteorologist Martin Granerød at the Meteorological Institute told NTB.
The winter holiday week enters its final phase for a lot of people in Norway. The weather will be characterized by changing conditions, Granerød noted.
“First, it will be mild on Thursday. It will be cold on Friday, then mild again on Saturday and Sunday. In terms of temperature, it will go up and down a bit,” he added.
Fresh snow in some areas
The rest of the week will be characterized by weather that can lead to rain and hail in low-lying areas in Southern Norway and Western Norway.
In the higher areas of Western Norway, a snow warning has been issued, which is valid until Thursday afternoon.
“Between 30 and 50 centimeters of snow are expected in the high-lying areas. So, where there are ski resorts, there may be some fresh snow in the next few days,” Granerød said.
The weather will mostly be dry when it comes to the Østafjells area (areas east of the Langfjellene mountain range). Some precipitation may occur in western areas.
“A warning has been issued for blowing snow in the mountains until Thursday, which means that those who are in the mountains should maybe only stay there a few more days.”
Cold in the north
In Northern Norway, the low temperatures will continue. For Nordland and Troms’ part, there will be showers through Thursday, with the possibility of thunder.
“It will continue to be cold until the first part of Saturday. Then it will gradually get milder throughout the week, from dry weather and showers on the coast to more rain and snow,” Granerød said.
This weekend, Southern Norway will have slightly milder weather, and temperatures can reach 6 to 7 degrees during the day.
“After that, it will be mostly stay-at-home weather throughout Southern Norway, with periods of sun Østafjells.
