After the government eased the national level of corona measures on Tuesday, Color Line announced that it would resume operations on the routes between Oslo and Kiel and Sandefjord and Strømstad.
The decision means that all four ships that have been taken out of service will be put back into operation and that the company’s approximately 950 laid-off employees will gradually return to work.
“We are very pleased with the relief that the government is now making with regard to the intervention measures that were introduced in December. The Norwegian entry restrictions, in particular, have – in practice – led to a closure of large parts of our business,” CEO Trond Kleivdal noted in a press release on Wednesday.
On the Oslo-Kiel route, M / S Color Magic will be put into operation from February 12, and M / S Color Fantasy will join it from February 25. On the Sandefjord-Strømstad route, M / S Color Hybrid will be put into operation from February 9, and M / S Color Viking is planned to be put into operation from February 28.
“The entire tourism industry has been affected by the fact that we have not been able to operate our daily, year-round passenger routes between Norway, Sweden, and Germany. A lot of our employees have now experienced being laid off for the third time due to the level of measures, and it is therefore particularly gratifying to be able to welcome our colleagues back,” Kleivdal added.
In a normal year, Color Line transports close to 4 million passengers and 200,000 freight units between Norway and Denmark, Sweden, and Germany, divided into four year-round routes and seven ships.
