The Control and Constitution Committee in the Norwegian parliament (Storting) will not proceed with the investigations related to the appointment of Jens Stoltenberg as the Governor of Norges Bank.

The Control and Constitution Committee has asked a number of questions to Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (AP), Minister of Finance Trygve Slagsvold Vedum (SP), and former Minister of Labor and Social Inclusion Hadia Tajik (AP) about the appointment of Jens Stoltenberg as the new head of Norges Bank.

The investigation is being put on hold for the time being.

“From the Conservatives’ side, it is not relevant to continue as the situation is now. Both the government and NATO must use all efforts to handle the security situation,” Committee leader Peter Frølich (H) stated.

Investigation might continue later

However, it is not excluded that the case may be taken up again later.

Sofie Høgestøl sits on the Control Committee for the Liberal Party (V). She believes the answers the Committee has received do not reveal formal errors in the appointment.

“Therefore, the Liberal Party does not want to proceed with a control hearing in this round,” Høgestøl said.

“Nevertheless, we still believe that the appointment was unwise, as it has created doubts about the Central Bank governor’s independence,” she added.

The Red Party and the Labor Party also made it clear that they did not want to proceed with the investigation.
