The Norwegian government is easing the corona measures on Svalbard and raising the occupancy limit for accommodation.

The occupancy limit for accommodation will be raised to 90%, the government states.

The increased occupancy limit applies regardless of whether the room has its own bathroom or not. Today, the occupancy rate is 60% and 70%, respectively, depending on whether the rooms have their own bathroom.

The restrictions have been necessary for Svalbard because they do not have the same opportunity to implement quarantine or isolation as the mainland.

“Most residents of Svalbard are now protected against COVID-19 as the population there has been prioritized for vaccination. It is still necessary to keep 10% of the accommodation capacity reserved in case of need for quarantine or isolation,” Minister of Justice and Emergency Management Monica Mæland (H) noted.
