There is an increased incidence of menstrual disorders in young women after they have been vaccinated against the coronavirus, the first results of FHI’s population surveys show.

In the study, many women reported more heavy menstrual bleeding than usual after the first and second vaccine doses.

“7.6% stated that they had heavy bleeding before vaccination, while 13.6% stated that they had heavier bleeding after the first dose.

“8.2% stated that they had heavy bleeding before the second dose, while 15.3% stated that they had heavier bleeding after the second dose.

Among women who experienced menstrual disorders after the first dose, close to two out of three also experienced menstrual disorders after the second dose, according to the study.

Trogstad: Bleeding disorders are very common

Project manager and doctor Lill Trogstad at the National Institute of Public Health (FHI) emphasized that bleeding disorders are very common.

Even before vaccination, almost four out of ten young women reported such disorders. Nevertheless, in this study, we see that somewhat more women got disorders after the first or second dose of the corona vaccine,” she said.

Before vaccination, almost four out of ten women aged 18–30 stated that they had experienced menstrual disorders during their last menstrual period before vaccination.
