One corona-infected person in Steinkjer is infected by a virus variant from California. The person has an unknown route of infection, according to the newspaper Trønder-Avisa.

“The Municipality does not know the transmission route of the person. We know that the test has nothing to do with the cases in March or with the Easter tourists. These people have only been to Steinkjer,” municipal chief physician Sunniva Rognerud noted.

Five people in the infected person’s household have been infected with the coronavirus. Rognerud expects everyone to have the California variant.

According to the California Institute of Public Health, the California variant (B.1.427 / B.1.429) is estimated to be 20% more contagious.

On Sunday, the crisis management team in Steinkjer adopted several measures to reduce the infection. Both schools and shopping malls are closed.
