After one week of the pilot strike, SAS may have lost more than NOK 900 million.

Around 900 SAS pilots went on strike on Monday last week. SAS has estimated that the company is losing USD 10-13 million per day on the pilot strike. That corresponds to between NOK 100 and 130 million daily.

According to Jacob Pedersen, head of research at Sydbank, the SAS management wants to save SEK 800 million a year on pilots.

Jan pointed out that the strike entails a one-time loss, while possible savings would be achieved every single year.

“Therefore, this is (a battle) worth fighting for the management,” Pedersen told the newspaper Aftenposten.

Negotiations set to continue

According to the Parat association SAS Norge Flygerforening, the pilots have offered SAS cost cuts of NOK 600 million in the form of lower wages and increased working hours.

SAS had SEK 7.8 billion in cash as of June 30, 2022. The company assesses that it has sufficient liquidity to meet its business obligations in the short term.

The parties in the labor dispute will probably meet on Tuesday.
