The two generals, Crown Prince Haakon and King Harald were on Tuesday attending the military exercise Trident Juncture. The Crown Prince will sleep in a tent with the soldiers.
The Royal Household states that father and son received a broad orientation about the military exercise, which is the largest NATO exercise since the 80’s.
“The two four-star generals took time to talk to the soldiers about the exercise and the demanding challenges Trident Juncture present,” the King said.
The Crown Prince and the King first visited the Røros Exercise before moving on to Glåmos. Then they split and the King went on to Værnes to meet soldiers from the Royal Marines, while the Crown Prince went to Tolga to meet Swedish soldiers.
“The Crown Prince also followed the exercise on Tuesday after having stayed in tents with soldiers out in the field,” the King said.
The Constitution states that “the King has the highest command over the land and sea power of the kingdom” and that “the King has the right to summon troops, begin war in defense of the land and make peace”. Both he and the Crown Prince are Generals in the Army and the Air Force, as well as Admirals in the Navy.
