Peacefully and quietly, Crown Princess Mette-Marit will celebrate her birthday, today, without official assignments.

– The day will be celebrated privately, the assistant communications manager at the Palace, Sven Gj. Gjeruldsen, answers NTB’s questions about today’s plans.

There is also no room for so much else with the prevailing infection control measures, and moreover, this year’s birthday for Mette-Marit falls in the middle of the week, with school the next day for the children.

As for everyone in Norway, this year has been marked by the Coronavirus pandemic situation for the Crown Prince’s family as well, with home school, quarantine periods and holidays in Norway.

The Crown Princess had already reduced her workload after she was diagnosed with a chronic lung disease almost two years ago, an unusual variant of fibrosis in the lungs, according to her doctor. Which means that she is also in one of the risk groups for Covid-19 infection and consequently must be extra careful.

However, she has been active on social media and has posted posts with private photos from the family’s activities during the Coronavirus era. When Crown Prince Haakon turned one year older just under a month ago, the Crown Princess posted a video with pictures of him on Instagram – so it remains to be seen if something similar appears on her day.
