Thursday is the 15th anniversary of Crown Prince Haakon and Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby marrying in the Oslo Cathedral.

According to the Royal Palace, there will be no official celebration of the anniversary on August 25. On the official program Crown Prince Haakon is listed with traveling to Geneva for the anniversary to attend the afternoon meeting in YGL Foundation.

Crown Prince Haakon and Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby met at the Quart Festival in Kristiansand in 1999. They would get some challenging years ahead before they got married. The relationship and the wedding attracted national and international attention. The two wrote monarchy history when hereditary prince in 2001 married a single mother.

In a wedding speech she thanked the Crown Prince Haakon family for their support:
– We have had many long evenings with talks and discussions over the past year. It has been educational and well. Although at times it has been tough, I think that we have grown on it.
The words of his wife from the same speech have been quoted frequently in the past 15 years:

– I do not think I have been so weak or so strong as when I have been with you. I do not think I have ever been so filled with love than being with you.
