‘Date driving’ considered in Bergen

Because of the danger of poor air quality, alternate ‘ date driving’  may be introduced in Bergen this week.

The city council in Bergen will make a decision on Monday afternoon after an updated weather forecast, said the newspaper BergensAvisen.
Date Driving means that on dates with even numbers only cars with license plates ending in even numbers are allowed to drive within the outer toll ring from 6am to 10pm, and the same system for cars with odd numbers on odd dates.
It may be introduced due to a weather phenomenon called inversion that could lead to the infamous “poison cap” in Bergen.
– This means that the temperature increases with altitude, and not vice versa as it normally does, said state meteorologist Frode Hassel on weather prediction in Western Norway.
