A man was found dead on the ice at Gjersjøen in Nordre Follo on Sunday. Police are investigating the case as a suspicious death.

As of Sunday, the man’s identity was not confirmed.

“We have found some traces – we have an 80% secure ID, but it is not 100% sure,” police inspector Lars Reinholdt-Østby in the Eastern Police District told NTB on Sunday.

The dead person is a middle-aged man and probably not a Norwegian citizen. He was found dead by passers-by on the ice on Sunday morning, shortly before 11 o’clock.

“We are currently investigating it as a suspicious death,” the police inspector added.

Autopsy scheduled for Monday

The man will be autopsied on Monday. The police hope to receive final confirmation of the identity to notify relatives.

Police are investigating whether the traces of blood found on a railing in the area may be related to the death. On Sunday afternoon, the police also began investigating a detached house in the area.

The police were notified of the dead man at 10:53 AM on Sunday. Gjersjøen is located in the Oppegård part of Nordre Follo Municipality.
