A 27-year-old man from North Jutland has been found guilty of planning several school shootings in Denmark.

A unanimous court chose to disregard the accused man’s explanation of events. During the trial, he said that he was fascinated by school shootings and that he investigated the subject intensely in the 2015-2018 period. In the end, according to the charged man, he scrapped the plans because he lacked motivation and because it dawned on him that it was a sick fantasy.

“He never gave up; he just postponed the plans and continued the preparations until he was arrested,” the head of the court, Helle Dietz, stated. She emphasizes that the 27-year-old searched for weapons and ordered an AR-15 rifle on the dark web in December 2020. The powerful rifle is often used in mass shootings in the United States.

The accused man explained that he wrote a 178-page manifesto in which he described his desire to kill as many people as possible. He also visited several schools to gather information, where he walked around the hallways.

The man was found guilty on all charges, except allegations that he planned attacks on North Jutland in addition to East Jutland.

The court’s experts believe the man is mentally ill and should not be imprisoned. The prosecution believes he should be admitted to a psychiatric ward.
