A total of 1,547 asylum seekers were registered in Denmark last year, which is the lowest annual number since 1998.

The number of asylum seekers decreased by 43% compared to 2019. At that time, 2,716 asylum seekers were registered.

“The corona situation is probably part of the explanation, but I also believe that we can thank our tight immigration policy,” Minister of Immigration and Integration Mattias Tesfaye noted.

The number of asylum seekers last year is less than one tenth of the number in the record year 2015.

At that time, 21,316 asylum seekers arrived in Denmark. However, last year’s figures are still preliminary.
