Drammen registered 35 new corona cases on Wednesday – 15 of them are linked to outbreaks in connection with Eid celebrations.

Eid is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims that marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan.

The infection rate in Drammen is the highest since April 8, when 35 cases were registered.

“We expected an increase in the number of infection cases after the last long weekend, but today’s infection numbers are probably in excess of what we expected,” chief infection control physician Einar Sagberg noted.

Furthermore, 33 cases have known transmission routes, and 15 of the 33 cases of infection are linked to outbreaks in connection with Eid celebrations.

“There are probably some cases connected to both the Eid celebration and the May 17 celebration,” Sagberg said.

During the last 14 days, 159 new cases of infection have been detected in Drammen.
