Drunk driver charged with multiple offenses after police chase in Vestvågøy

A man has been charged in Salten and Lofoten District Court for, among other things, firing shots at the police during a police chase in Vestvågøy Municipality in 2020.

The indictment has been issued by the Public Prosecutor in Nordland, according to the newspaper Lofotenposten, which first mentioned the case.

The man is charged with several violations of the Road Traffic Act. He is accused of opening fire at the police, illegally possessing weapons, and burglary.

According to the indictment, the man allegedly threatened police officers by firing shots with a shotgun or another firearm out of the passenger window of a car he was driving, or he arranged for someone else to fire the shots.

Accused of driving under the influence

He is also accused of driving while under the influence. The incident happened in connection with a police chase on the night of April 5 last year.

The case is scheduled to take place Salten and Lofoten District Court in September.
