The Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte says his government has made mistakes in the communication about the corona pandemic.

Rutte acknowledged the communication errors in an interview published on Christmas Eve, as the Netherlands celebrates its second corona-Christmas.

Last week, all non-essential businesses were closed until January 14, while schools were closed until January 9.

“We could have started the vaccination earlier,” Rutte said on Friday.

He added that the government has not managed to convince the population of the need to avoid social contact in order to stop the spread of infection.

“I have made communication mistakes,” Rutte said.

The strict measures that have been introduced seem to have an effect. The number of hospital admissions fell by 33% last week.
