The new E39 roadway section pending construction between Kristiansand & Mandal may become the first stretch of highway within Norway with a 120 kph speed limit.
Harald Solvik, Head Roadway Construction Development spoke with NRK(Norwegian Broadcasting Corp.) of the intended E39 120 speed limit, saying; ‘We want to take the necessary measures that will allow E39 road-users to save the most time.’
A road-gang of up to 1,500 construction workers will be utilized to build the E39 roadway segment, slated to begin this coming October.
The sealed-bid competition to grant construction rights was canceled in 2017 due to a lack of qualified construction company applicants, but eventually bidding gained a successful tender.
The E39 construction project is projected to take four years to complete.
E39 is the designation of a 1330 km long north-south road in Norway & Denmark, running from the south end in Aalborg, Denmark to the north end at Klett, Norway.
There are 9 ferries within the E39 roadway; the highest number of ferries for a single road within Europe.
