Eastern Norway must prepare for snow chaos

The meteorologists warn of snow chaos to the traffic and advise people to leave their car behind when the snow arrives east of the mountains on Monday and Tuesday.

Snow had fallen several places in Southern Norway on Monday afternoon. The Meteorological Institute warned on Yr about snow and under-cooled rain in most parts of the country over the next few days. For Sørlandet,  a warning  was sent Monday afternoon about difficult driving conditions.

State Meteorologist Siri Wiberg told NRK on Monday afternoon that it is expected to fall 10 cm snow over most parts of Eastern Norway from Tuesday morning omwards.

– It is time to warn people about what’s coming. It can get quite chaotic, says Wiberg to NRK.

There has been a warnings about difficult and dangerous driving conditions in the Southeast of the country and all the way up to Nordland on Tuesday. It is warned of undercooled rain and heavy winds in the mountains,  that along with snowfall and drifting snow, can cause difficult and dangerous driving conditions.

Difficult conditions

– From Tuesday afternoon, there will be difficult driving conditions in the mountains due to an Easterly gale and drifting snow, first in the Southern areas, the meteorologists warned in a notice notice for Helgeland and Saltfjellet.

Precipitation will first come as snow before the temperature rises and then change into rainfall.

– From Tuesday afternoon, it will turn into rain in Eastern Norway and inner areas of Western Norway.

Do not drive with summer tyres any longer. Driving conditions may become very difficult and it is completely unacceptable to travel by car without winter tyres. If you have not been able to change tyres, you must leave your car behind. Travel rather on public transport, says State Meteorologist, Aslaug Skålevik Valved to Nettavisen.
