Eight boys have been hospitalized after coming into contact with barrels filled with nitric acid inside an industrial area in Stathelle, the newspaper Varden writes.

Operation leader Espen Reite in the Southeastern Police District told the newspaper that the children are primary school students and that the incident happened during school hours.

“We were notified of this at 2:59 PM. It appears that they came into contact with a substance that appears to be nitric acid,” he said.

Reite says that the extent of their injuries is unknown for the time being.

“They were taken to the emergency room,” he added.
