Eight people died in drowning accidents in Norway in October

According to the Norwegian Sea Rescue Society’s monthly overview of drowning accidents, seven men and one woman died in drowning accidents in October. 

So far this year, 67 people drowned in Norway, a decrease of 17% from last year when 80 people died in drowning accidents by the end of October.

The three people who have been reported missing after an accident at the Tokagjelselva river are included in the count for October. Two of the three have been found dead in the river. The third person is still missing. 

In Troms og Finnmark, 14 people died in drowning accidents between January and October of 2021. In Vestland and Vike, 12 and 10 people drowned, respectively, in the aforementioned period. 

Nine out of ten people who died in drowning accidents so far this year were men.
