Elkjøp Nordic experienced tremendous growth during the pandemic and had sales of NOK 49.8 billion. The group is now distributing NOK 300 million in bonuses to its employees.

Total turnover in the Nordic region increased by 21% (NOK 8.7 billion) in the financial year 2020/21, to NOK 49.8 billion, Elkjøp stated on Wednesday.

Operating profit increased by 24% and ended at NOK 1,808 million.

“We have seen major changes in shopping habits and new needs for technology, both for the home office and new digital leisure activities,” CEO Erik G. Sønsterud said.

Corona effect

Elkjøp also suffered the consequences of the corona pandemic, even though home offices and closed leisure activities led to increased demand for the chain’s products.

In Norway, 60 stores were closed, while 38 stores in Denmark had to close for shorter or longer periods. A total of 1,200 employees were laid off during the pandemic. Now, on the other hand, all 11,000 employees are back at work.

“As a thank you for the enormous effort that has been put in, it is gratifying to be able to share the profits with all employees. More than NOK 300 million will be distributed as a bonus to employees throughout the Nordic region,” the CEO stated.
