“What we now see in Washington is a completely unacceptable attack on democracy in the United States,” Prime Minister Erna Solberg (H) wrote on Twitter.

“President Trump has the responsibility for stopping this. Scary pictures, and incredible that this is the United States,” she added.

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg describes the situation as shocking.

“Shocking scenes in Washington DC. The outcome of this democratic election must be respected,” Stoltenberg tweeted.

Trump supporters stormed Congress in the US capital on Wednesday, many of them wearing gas masks.

Søreide: Deeply outrageous

Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide (H) says President Donald Trump is responsible for ensuring that the demonstration against Congress is put under control.

“What is now happening in Washington DC is deeply outrageous and serious and a completely unacceptable attack on democracy.

“President Trump has a special responsibility to ensure that the situation is put under control,” Søreide wrote on Twitter on Wednesday night.

The message comes as thousands of protesters have broken through security barriers around the US Congress building.

According to CNN, shots were fired and one woman was critically injured.
