The electricity bill has tripled for Hennig-Olsen Is in Kristiansand.

Bad summer weather combined with production challenges and sharp price increases for everything from electricity to milk led to the ice cream manufacturer reporting a deficit for the first time since 2009, the newspaper Dagens Næringsliv writes.

Paal Hennig-Olsen, who owns Hennig-Olsen Is with his brother Martin, is concerned.

“We had an electricity bill of NOK 7 million in 2020. Last year it increased to NOK 10 million. This year, we expect it to be at least NOK 20 million, even if we have half of the electricity delivered at a fixed price. It is quite dramatic for us,” Hennig-Olsen told the newspaper.

In addition to electricity, other prices have also risen significantly. Packaging, transport, milk, and cream have become more expensive.

“It doesn’t help that our main competitor Diplom-Is is in a different price range,” Hennig-Olsen added.
