Armed police moved out after reports that a family was attacked with a bat and possibly a knife on Valderøy in Giske municipality north of Ålesund.

The police were notified of the incident that took place in a residential area at 7:30 AM on Monday.

“We moved out with several police patrols. The patrols were armed,” operations manager Sindre Molnes in Møre og Romstad Police District told news bureau NTB just before 9 o’clock.

Police have arrested five people for the attack on the family of three.

“Since this happened in a residential area, it was a bit chaotic for the police as there were many other people present, including children,” Molnes said.

No drama

Police do not know the cause of the incident. The relationship between the suspected perpetrators and the victims is also currently unknown.

“Now we are working to find out what actually happened and whether weapons were really used,” Molnes added.

Police said on Twitter that the suspects were arrested without drama. The offended have not suffered major injuries and could be unharmed.

“They were taken to the emergency room for a checkup,” the police noted.
