Fewer Norwegians are members of the Church of Norway, and fewer are getting baptized. Church attendance is also on the decline.
However, the number of members in other religious and philosophical communities is increasing.
The number of members in the Church of Norway has decreased every year since 2011. In 2020, it amounted to about 3.7 million, according to figures from Statistics Norway (SSB).
There are around 280,000 fewer members now than in 2005, and the proportion has fallen from 85 to 72% between 1994 and 2016.
The proportion of newborns baptized in the Church has dropped steadily from eight out of ten in 2001 to less than half in 2020.
