Finland is pulling the emergency brake, Prime Minister Sanna Marin said on Tuesday. She warned that stricter corona restrictions are necessary to address the threat related to the omikron.

“We are concerned about the pressure on the hospitals and intensive care units,” Marin told the broadcaster Yle, stating that Finland would “pull the emergency brake.”

From Christmas Eve, restaurants and bars in Finland must close at 9 PM, and from December 28, they must close even earlier and end their alcohol service no later than 5 PM.

From the same day, all visitors will have to present a negative test result to enter the country, and a limit will be introduced for the number of participants in public events.

The tightened measures will initially apply for three weeks, Marin stated on Tuesday.
