Three people were taken to the hospital for a check-up after a fire broke out in a compressed car wreck lot in Skien on Monday. The extinguishing of the fire continued on Tuesday.

The fire led to violent smoke development in the area around Havnevegen in Skien on Monday afternoon and the night before Tuesday.

“The fire fighters are in control (of the fire), and there is no danger of it spreading, but it is not easy to put out,” operations manager Tore Grindem in the Southeast Police District told newspaper Telemarksavisa on Tuesday morning.

At eight o’clock, the police and the fire brigade sat in a meeting to map the situatio.

The police were notified of the fire just after 5:00 PM on Monday. At the time, there was a fear that the fire could spread to nearby buildings.

A lot of smoke

Residents of the area were asked to keep their windows and doors closed due to the smoke.

Three people employed at the recycling company Stena Recycling inhaled smoke and were taken to hospital for a check-up.

Almost two hours after the fire broke out, the fire brigade announced that they had good control over the situation.

A boat also helped with the supply of water, and construction machinery helped divide the mound.

Operations Manager Grindem informed Varden that a lot of water had been used to put out the fire.
