Milder weather is approaching the Oslo region. The fire service warns of unsafe ice and asks people to exercise caution when walking on the ice.

“Changes in the ice can happen quickly. It is important that you are aware and prepared,” communications manager Sigurd Folgerø Dalen in the Oslo Fire and Rescue Service noted in a press release.

After a period of low temperatures, the weather is about to change in Southern Norway. In the Oslo area, temperatures are expected to rise going forward.

In recent weeks, a number of people have fallen through the ice in several places in the country. Several have also been sent to the hospital, and two people have drowned.

“It is important to emphasize that we do not ask people to stay away from the ice, but that they exercise great caution. Do not take any unnecessary chances and stick to areas where you know the conditions,” Dalen said.

The fire service asks people to always assume that the ice is unsafe. One should also make sure not to cross the ice alone.
