Around 300 people took part in Gjøvik’s first Pride parade on Saturday.

“For the past year, we have wanted to get a Pride parade in Gjøvik. We decided that we should have it in connection with the fact that we have City Life Day on August 20. Then, Oslo happened…” Deputy Mayor Anne Bjertnæs (H) in Gjøvik Municipality told NTB.

The organizers were initially unsure whether they should carry it out. Still, they quickly agreed that now it was more important than ever to hold the Pride parade.

“We must show that we stand up against discrimination and hatred. And we made it happen. There were 300 people who marched in the parade and took part in the event afterward,” she added.

“Now, there will be a parade every year. We have mustered 300 people who have walked through a pedestrian street full of people who have turned up to shout cheers and show support,” Bjertnæs said.
