Five foreign nationals were fined NOK 5,000 each when they tried to cross the border into Norway from Sweden on Sunday night at a closed border crossing.

The five tried to cross the border at the closed border crossing on county road 1992 at Mitandersfors.

“There are five Eastern Europeans. All have been expelled from Norway and returned to Sweden,” operations manager Bård Einar Hoft in the Inland Police District told news bureau NTB.

He does not know what the five said about their visit to Norway. The closed border crossing is located in Kongsvinger Municipality.

The border was closed on January 29. At present, only Norwegians and foreigners residing in Norway, with some exceptions, are allowed to enter the country.
