The five-year-old girl who was found lifeless in the sea in Stavanger on Thursday night was declared dead at the hospital on Friday.

The police do not suspect that the girl has been subjected to crime.

“This appears to be a tragic event. The crisis team in Stavanger is providing support to the relatives and others involved, and is available to those who need someone to talk to,” police professional investigation leader Øyvind Tveit in the Southwestern Police District stated in a press release.

The police have opened an investigation into the case.

The girl was reported missing from the area by Vardeneset in Stavanger at 5:30 PM on Thursday. Barely two hours later, she was found in the sea at Thorsastraen.

She was unconscious when she was picked up, and an attempt was made to revive her on the spot before she was transported by air ambulance to Haukeland University Hospital.
