Food aid: Tine to send 40,000 liters of milk to Ukraine

Tine is sending 40,000 liters of milk to Ukraine after Ukrainian authorities asked Tine and the government for food supplies.

“Tine’s employees and owners are proud but also humbled to be able to contribute. We are now sending 40,000 liters of milk to Ukraine at the request of the Ukrainian embassy,” CEO Gunnar Hovland in Tine told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).

Hovland says it is both desirable and necessary for Tine to help Ukraine.

“Farmers help farmers. When Ukrainian milk producers need support to support their own people, it is both desirable and necessary for Tine’s owners to remedy the situation.”

Social responsibility

The transport itself will be handled by Ukraine, and the delivery will be carried out on Thursday and Friday.

“Even though the farmers in Ukraine are doing everything they can to produce food, it is still the case that millions of people are on the run in their own country, and the conditions for keeping up with the need for food are not present right now,” Hovland said.

Tine has never before received a similar inquiry.

“It clearly reminds us that the primary tasks of any society are to provide the population with security and food. It also reminds us of our owners’ extended social responsibility as milk producers,” Hovland stated.
