Norway’s Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt believes that Russia is committing a clear violation of international law and says its recent moves could lead to a turning point in European history.

“This could be a turning point in Europe’s history,” Huitfeldt told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) on Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday, Huitfeldt will meet with a number of European foreign ministers, and during the day, they will consider whether Russia’s actions should be classified as an invasion.

“I will come back with a more concrete description of the situation, but this is a clear violation of international law, and we should not be reluctant with the condemnation,” she said.

On Monday, Russia recognized the breakaway regions of eastern Ukraine as separate states, and on Monday night, President Vladimir Putin ordered the military to send what Russia describes as “peacekeeping” forces into the region.
