Kai Eide, who has, among other positions, also been Norway’s NATO ambassador, believes that NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg’s rhetoric towards Russia is – at times – unfortunate.
The retired diplomat told TV2 that Stoltenberg should change his style.
“I think he has been quite confrontational. I think he should use his last months to de-escalate,” Kai Eide said.
The outgoing NATO chief must reassure the Russians and calm the conflict, Eide believes.
“Words create suspicion – they mean something. Both sides have legitimate interests, and we must find solutions that reflect both sides,” Eide said.
Jens Stoltenberg did not want to comment on the issue.
