Four people killed in train accident in Spain

Four people died and at least 47 were injured in a train accident in the northwest part of Spain.

Local authorities confirmed that four people were killed in the train accident. According to the newspaper El País the driver was one of the dead in the fatal accident.

The train belongs to the Portuguese company Comboios Portugal, and was on its way from Vigo to Porto in Portugal when it derailed. It is still unknown what caused the crash.

The accident occurred near the station in the town of O Porriño, about two miles south of Vigo near the border with Portugal, at half past nine on Friday morning. O Porriño is located about 450 kilometers northwest of Madrid.

Photos of the crash site showed a carriage that appears to have hit a power pole and overturned.

There were about 60 people aboard the train when it derailed.
