France will step up sanctions against Russia and will send more military equipment to Ukraine, President Emmanuel Macron’s office said during the weekend.

France will also send fuel to Ukraine to help fight the Russian invasion.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj said earlier Saturday that weapons and equipment from Western partners are on their way to Ukraine.

Macron called Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday after Russia started its invasion of the neighboring country. He asked Putin to stop the offensive in Ukraine immediately.

Macron also said that although France condemns the invasion and imposes sanctions, it is important to keep a door open for dialogue with Putin.
