All pregnant women who are to have an early ultrasound at Oslo University Hospital will also be offered a NIPT blood sample test (noninvasive prenatal testing).

The test will be used at the hospital from Monday, Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).

The test makes it possible to analyze the fetus’ DNA to detect any chromosomal abnormalities, such as Down’s syndrome.

The offer will only be made available to those women who are already entitled to an early ultrasound at public hospitals – women over the age of 35 or those who are in a risk group.
