From the New Year, passenger cars purchased by the public sector will be zero-emission cars. This also applies to light vans from 2023 and for city buses from 2025.

The new regulations on energy and environmental requirements will enter into force from the New Year, the Ministry of Transport and Communications stated in a press release on Christmas Eve.

“Norway wants to reach its climate goal under the Paris Agreement, so we have to use a number of tools. It is now possible to switch to zero-emission vehicles in more and more parts of the transport sector, and the public sector will be at the forefront of this shift,” Minister of Transport Jon-Ivar Nygård (AP) said.

He pointed out that more zero-emission cars will also have an impact on air quality and lead to less noise.

There will be some exceptions from the zero-emission requirement, for example, in the case of really low temperatures or a lack of charging options.
