From Monday morning, it is recommended by the authorities to use face masks on buses and trains in Oslo and in Indre Østfold municipality where it is impossible to keep a distance of one meter.

The recommendation, which was presented at the government’s press conference on Friday, is valid for two weeks from Monday 17 August. Minister of Health Bent Høie (H) nevertheless emphasizes that this does not replace the rule of one meter distance.

– The protective effect of face masks is estimated to be 40 percent, while keeping at least one meter distance is estimated to reduce the risk of infection by 80 percent. The meter rule is thus more important than the face mask, Høie said when the recommendation was presented.

A survey from the Norwegian Coronavirus Monitor shows that 55 percent of Norwegians are positive about wearing a face mask in Norway.
