UDI will be changing the asylum practices. New information have been revealed about forcible returns of the Syrians from Russia to Syria. Norway will stop all the returns of asylum seekers to Russia in order to give the asylum seekers the right treatment in their future asylum applications.
– From now on, only Syrians with a previous connection to Russia will be returned. Rest of the asylum seekers will get their case dealt with in Norway, said Department Director in immigration, Vesna Curk, to NRK.
This means that more than 1,000 cases will be processed in Norway, some of which originally were rejected. – Since there is such a large number of cases that have to be processed, it will take longer time before all the cases are processed, informs Curk.
In an email from UDI to NRK where they write about the new instructions that were introduced in november last year, it says: “We have received new information about forcible returns of the Syrians from Russia to Syria. This information, which was not known when UDI made its decision has played an important role when UNE changed some of our previous decisions. This is an element that has to be taken into account in our further assessment of these issues”.
-In addition, it seems that Russia does not want these people returned, according to the email from UDI, who did not want to be interviewed at this time.
