On Saturday, Gjerdrum Municipality will hold a memorial service for the victims of the quick clay landslide that took place in December last year.

Almost half a year has passed since the clay landslide at Ask in Gjerdrum. In order to mark the occasion, the Municipality plans to arrange a memorial service on Saturday with a commemorative walk to the landslide area, Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) reports.

On the night of December 30, 2020, a large landslide hit a residential area at Ask in Gjerdrum. Ten people lost their lives in the avalanche.

Report: Rapid evacuation saved many lives

According to a recent evaluation report, the rapid evacuation and the efforts of the rescue crews after the Gjerdrum landslide saved many lives.

The report – published on June 3 – contains 67 learning points and 40 points about what worked well.

“The ministry will now thoroughly review the report, which addresses what worked well and what worked less well during the rescue operation. There is always something to learn,” Minister of Justice and Emergency Management Monica Mæland (H) said in early June.
