The world passed 1 million coronavirus-related deaths on Sunday, figures from Worldometer show.

The coronavirus was first discovered in China in January this year and has since developed into a global pandemic with major consequences worldwide.

The first confirmed death from the disease was recorded in Wuhan province in China on January 9, while the first death outside China was recorded on February 1 in the Philippines.

The first death outside Asia was recorded in France on February 14.

During a press conference on March 12, Prime Minister Erna Solberg stated that Norway’s first death had been registered.

Since then, 270 deaths have been registered in connection with the pandemic in Norway, but the health authorities emphasize that it is difficult to distinguish between how many died from coronavirus and how many died while having the disease.
